Doing Our Part to Support Our Frontline Workers.
While SOULO has remained open as an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been impressed with the dedication and effort of the first responders, nurses, and caregivers on the front line. Uppermost in our mind was the recurring thought: “What could we do to help?” So repurposed our Colex Sharpcut to make PPE face shields that we’re delivering to local hospitals. We’re never going to meet the quantity of 3M, but we want to do what we can to help.
Understandably, not many people have commercial flatbed cutting machines right at hand. But if you do (or, more likely, you’re in a shop that has one), here’s our template for creating those face shields, and instructions on how we do it. If you have the time and resources, consider those in your area that may be in need of PPE. Potential donation recipients could be:
- Hospitals
- Medical clinics
- Emergency responders
- Dental practices
- Pharmacies
- Retail or food service workers (especially those who cannot set up another form of divider between themselves and their customers).
The nurses and other front-line health care workers we’ve talked to say they really like the design of these face shields, because they go down to their chin. And in a pandemic that includes shortages of face masks, and hospital staff re-using the ones they have, any additional face cover helps.
No one person or company can fix the PPE shortage alone, but if a lot of people do what they can to help just a little, that will help a lot. If you can use our template and process to create more PPE, please do. And feel free to share it with anyone you know who can help, too. If enough of us step in to help, we can collectively bolster this shortage and create a stronger business community, while doing our part.
