ADA / Room ID

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its regulations exist to help as many people as possible navigate the world we all share. Rules for sign height, for instance, help folks in wheelchairs see room ID and navigation signs at a comfortable level. Rules for font and sign color help those with vision problems see signs to the best of their ability. Beyond being required by decency, the ADA regulations are required by law, and SOULO can help you and your business comply with these laws.

SOULO PROVIDES TURNKEY ADA AND Room Identification SIGNS

Whenever possible, our graphic designers use your visual brand – especially shape – to make the sign itself a branded piece of architectural decor. Our signs accent a building’s style, grab attention, and are visually pleasing.

Our goal is to let you focus on yours: getting the building completed on time. You don’t have to worry about the legal requirements of the building and parking lot. We know the laws, including those specific to your locality. That means ADA and wayfinding requirements, but also fire marshal access rules. SOULO can guide you and create legally effective signs.

ROOM ID SIGNS

Room ID signs cover a wide range of purposes. For instance, safety signs tell swimmers the rules of the pool. Room and floor number signs help visitors find their way through a business center. A garbage chute sign tells residents where to deposit their trash. Their main purpose is to educate and inform.

But beyond their purpose, there may be ADA regulations that cover what interior room ID signs you need for your business. Like other ADA mandated signs, those regulations cover things like visual design, installation location and height, dimensions, etc. This is where SOULO can help. Our sign experts know the ADA regulations for a variety of businesses. They can help guide you through what your building needs. Then, after you know what signs need to be created, our installation experts will make sure those signs are installed correctly.

DESIGNING ADA AND ROOM ID SIGNS
BEYOND JUST THE BASICS

There are many more requirements set under the ADA. Those listed above are just a few to keep in mind. SOULO has installed thousands of ADA-compliant signs over the years. We have the knowledge to help your project meet those regulations.

Installation: The ADA requires that signs be installed at a certain height.

Fonts: Fonts used on signs must be sans serif fonts of a type that uses short, block characters. These limits set font choices to those where characters are clear and easy to read.

Visuals: Signs must have high contrast between the sign background and the characters. The sign color must not be made from a glossy material.

Raised Characters and Braille: Raised characters need to be 1/32 inch minimum above their background. Braille grade 2 is required for all raised character signs.
